Zakynthos International Airport “Dionysios Solomos” (IATA: ZTH, ICAO: LGZA) serves the island of Zakynthos in Greece and is located near Kalamaki, about 4.3 km from Zakynthos town, as well as within easy reach of popular seaside resorts like Laganas and Tsilivi. The airport enforces a strict curfew from 22:00 to 05:00 to protect nesting loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) on nearby beaches; although the authorities can permit night operations, these remain very rare.
Privatized in late 2015, Zakynthos Airport is operated by the Fraport AG / Copelouzos Group joint venture under a 40-year concession. Under Fraport’s stewardship, a major upgrade program has been launched: terminal and apron reorganizations, a new fire station, inline baggage screening, and significant increases in check-in counters and security lanes were among the planned improvements.
In 2024, the airport handled 2,223,011 passengers, a 6.8% increase over the previous year, with 15,127 aircraft movements (up 4.0%).
A fourth phase of runway reconstruction is planned, with runway operations for Zakynthos scheduled to be suspended from 2–16 February 2026, in order to rebuild and reconfigure runway safety zones (RESA) and improve overall airfield infrastructure.
The airport has one asphalt runway (16/34) that measures 2,228 m (7,338 ft) in length and 45 m in width.
Environmental management remains a strong focus: the airport covers about 850,000 m² and operates under strict environmental licensing to minimize its impact, especially with regard to local wildlife.
