Thessaloniki International Airport “Macedonia” (Greek: Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Θεσσαλονίκης «Μακεδονία»; IATA: SKG, ICAO: LGTS), formerly known as Mikra Airport, is located in Thermi, approximately 13 km south‑southeast of Thessaloniki’s city center. It serves as the main gateway to Northern Greece, including the region of Macedonia and popular tourist destinations such as Chalkidiki. Thessaloniki Airport is one of the busiest regional airports in the country, ranking third in Greece behind Athens International Airport and Heraklion International Airport.
In recent years, the airport has experienced steady passenger growth. In the first seven months of 2025, it handled approximately 4.36 million passengers, a 7.3% increase over the same period in 2024. October 2025 alone saw 755,920 passengers, up 9.7% year over year. The airport is operated by Fraport Greece and has received top-level certifications for service quality, reflecting its commitment to enhancing passenger experience.
The terminal consists of multiple floors, with arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the first floor. Departures include check-in desks, waiting areas, cafés, duty-free shops, and airline offices, while the second floor offers restaurants and bars with views of the runways. Additional passenger services include luggage wrapping, lockers, ATMs, a Greek National Tourism Organization office, and car rental facilities operated by companies such as Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt. Retail options include shops selling traditional Greek products, jewelry, accessories, and clothing, alongside a duty-free store.
The airport has two runways. Runway 10/28 is 3,440 m long and was completed and extended by 2019, enabling operations for larger aircraft and improving reliability in low-visibility conditions. Runway 16/34 is 2,424 m long. This infrastructure allows the airport to accommodate a wide range of aircraft, from small propeller planes and regional airliners to medium and long-range jets as well as large airliners.
Thessaloniki International Airport remains a vital hub for domestic and international flights, providing convenient access to Northern Greece and serving as an important transit point for both tourists and business travelers. Its modern facilities, expanding terminal capacity, and continued investment in passenger services make it a key airport in the region.
