Chios Island National Airport,(IATA: JKH, ICAO: LGHI), also known as Chios Airport “Omiros”, is located on the southern side of Chios island, in the Kampos region, about 4 km from the center of Chios town. The airport is operated by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).
It opened on 4 August 1969, when Olympic Airways’ flight OA560 landed from Athens. he terminal building is relatively small, but offers basic passenger services including cafés, a duty-free shop, ATMs, and free Wi-Fi.
The airport has a single asphalt runway, 01/19, which is 1,511 m (4,957 ft) long and 30 m (98 ft) wide. Its elevation is very low, at just about 5 m (15 ft) above sea level.
For navigation, Chios Airport has a non-directional beacon (NDB) on the field and a VOR/DME (MESTA) nearby. According to Universal Aviation, the airport is an airport of entry, and it supports business aviation.
In terms of aircraft types, the runway length and facilities are suitable for small propeller planes, small jets, and regional airliners.
Passenger traffic has seen some fluctuations: for instance, November 2023 data reported a modest increase in internal passenger arrivals compared to 2022.
