Kalamata International Airport

Kalamata International Airport “Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos” (Greek: Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Καλαμάτας, IATA: KLX, ICAO: LGKL) is a mixed civil-military airport located in the region of Messinia, Greece. It primarily handles seasonal traffic, especially during the summer months.

The airport is situated between Kalamata and Messini on the GR-82 highway (Pylos – Kalamata – Sparta), just west of the railway tracks on the Pamisos River plain. The passenger terminal lies to the east and is accessed via GR-7 / E55 / E65 (Kalamata – Tripoli – Corinth).

A military base of the Hellenic Air Force is located to the west of the runway, sharing the runway with commercial flights.

In 2024, international passenger arrivals at Kalamata Airport increased by 13.6%, reaching 153,607 passengers, marking one of the busiest years in its history.  The average number of passengers per flight also hit a record high: according to official data, there were 118 passengers per flight in 2024, compared to 115 in 2023 and 110 in 2022. During the first eight months of 2025, the airport registered 1,607 international flights, carrying 120,561 arriving and 112,802 departing passengers.

The airport operates under a seasonal schedule. According to its winter timetable (valid through March 2025), operating hours vary by day and season, with early morning and evening service windows.

Kalamata International Airport has one main asphalt runway (17R/35L) with a length of 2,703 m (8,868 ft). There is also a second strip (formerly runway 17L/35R) of approximately 2,876 m, now used as a taxiway. These runway facilities make the airport suitable for a wide variety of aircraft: small props, regional and medium jets, long-range aircraft, and even larger airliners.

Recent developments point to growing investment in the airport’s infrastructure: according to its 2023–2024 financial report, the Growth Fund (Υπερταμείο) has prioritized upgrades to both infrastructure and services at Kalamata Airport.
