Samos International Airport

Samos International Airport (IATA: SMI, ICAO: LGSM), commonly known as Aristarchos of Samos Airport, serves Samos Island, Greece. The name honors Aristarchos of Samos, the Hellenistic astronomer and mathematician. The airport lies roughly 5 km from the historic town of Pythagorio.

According to the latest environmental bulletin, the runway’s length is 2,044 m × 45 m, operating under code 09/27.  The airport is situated just 5.74 m above sea level, which contributes to its relatively constrained surroundings.

Samos Airport is managed by Fraport Greece, which has carried out infrastructure upgrades.

Since the airport has only one relatively short runway and limited space, pilots must navigate carefully. Its alpine-coastal terrain and proximity to surrounding hills mean that strong Meltemi winds in summer can make landings challenging. The terminal remains compact, with a single building, no jet-bridges, and passenger facilities (like a café and duty-free) spread across two floors.
