Corfu International Airport

Corfu International Airport, “Ioannis Kapodistrias” (Greek: Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Κέρκυρας, “Ιωάννης Καποδίστριας) or Ioannis Kapodistrias (Capodistrias) International Airport (IATA: CFU, ICAO: LGKR)  is a government‑owned airport on the Greek island of Corfu, operated by Fraport Greece. It serves both scheduled and charter flights from a variety of European cities, and its traffic peaks during the summer between April and October. The airport is named after Ioannis Kapodistrias, a distinguished Corfiot diplomat and the first Governor of modern Greece.

The airport is located about 2–3 km south of Corfu Town, and the approach for runway 16/34 offers stunning aerial views of Pontikonisi, the Vlacherna Monastery, and the hills of Kanoni. Its single runway, numbered 16/34, is 2,373 m (7,785 ft) long and 45 m wide, with an asphalt surface. The airport’s elevation is very low — just 2 m (6 ft) above sea level.

Corfu Airport has one passenger terminal with a total area of around 16,000 m², housing shops, travel agency desks, cafés, car‑rental offices, ATMs, and free Wi‑Fi. According to recent environmental documentation, there are 350 car parking spaces, 28 bus parking spots, and 55 taxi bays. Its operating hours vary by season: 24‑hour operation in summer, and from 07:30 to 22:30 in winter.

Corfu Airport has seen strong passenger growth in recent years. In 2024 it handled 4,343,748 passengers, a 6.8% increase over the previous year, with 31,474 aircraft movements. The 2025 traffic overview shows some seasonal variation, with domestic passenger numbers down in early months compared to 2024.

The airport’s development and operations are governed by environmental licensing, with recent amendments approved in 2024.

Corfu remains a key entry point to the Ionian Islands, combining its heritage, touristic importance, and functional capacity to support a wide range of aircraft, from small propeller planes to larger jets.
