Naxos Island National Airport

Naxos Island National Airport (IATA: JNX, ICAO: LGNX), also locally called “Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Νάξου,” is located near Agios Prokopios, about 3 km from Naxos City (Chora), and roughly 4 km southwest of the island’s capital. The airport first opened in 1992.

Its single asphalt runway is approximately 901 m long, which restricts operations to relatively small aircraft; currently scheduled flights include aircraft such as ATR 42, DHC-7, and DHC-8.

There is regular domestic service: Sky Express operates flights between Naxos and Athens.

In recent years, the airport has embarked on a €17 million expansion plan (2023–2025), that aims to improve safety and capacity. As part of this plan, the runway is being extended by 300 m to the south, lateral safety zones will be built, a 60 m “extreme safety zone” will be added at the end of the new runway section, and a 90 m RESA (runway end safety area) is also planned. Taxiways are being widened, new taxiways are under construction, and a turn-pad will be built at the southern tip of the expanded runway. In addition, the aircraft parking apron will be expanded by 6,000 m², and there will be upgrades to drainage infrastructure, internal roads, and perimeter fencing.

Because of the short runway, some aircraft — such as Sky Express’s ATR 72-600 — currently cannot operate fully loaded, which limits their capacity during busy summer period.
