Syros Island National Airport

Syros Island National Airport (Greek: Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Σύρου, IATA: JSY, ICAO: LGSO), also known as Syros National Airport “Demetrius Vikelas” (Greek: Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Σύρου “Δημήτριος Βικέλας”), serves Syros Island in the Cyclades, Greece. The airport is named after Demetrius Vikelas (1835–1908), a Greek businessman and writer born in Ermoupoli, the main town of Syros.

Syros Island is located in the Aegean Sea, approximately 78 nautical miles (144 km) southeast of Athens. The airport primarily supports domestic and regional flights, connecting Syros with Athens and other nearby islands.

The airport features a single runway, 3,543 feet (1,080 m) in length, suitable for small propeller aircraft. Facilities are limited, reflecting its focus on general aviation and short-haul domestic flights, but the airport efficiently handles passenger traffic during the high summer season when tourism peaks.

Syros Airport remains a vital link for the island’s residents and visitors, providing access to the Cyclades and supporting local economic activity, particularly tourism.
