Catania–Fontanarossa Airport (Aeroporto Internazionale “Vincenzo Bellini” di Catania-Fontanarossa) (IATA: CTA, ICAO: LICC) is the international airport serving Catania, the second-largest city in Sicily. It is located just 2.3 nautical miles (about 4.3 km) southwest of the city centre. Named after the composer Vincenzo Bellini, who was born in Catania, the airport is operated by SAC S.p.A.
Fontanarossa is now the busiest airport in Sicily. In 2024 it handled 12,346,530 passengers, up nearly 15% from 2023, making it one of Italy’s top airports by traffic. Aircraft movements in 2024 also increased significantly, reaching 82,530, a 12.8% rise.
The airport has a single runway 08/26, which is 2,560 m (7,989 ft) long and surfaced with asphalt. Its elevation is approximately 12 meters (39 ft) above sea level.
In its 2024 annual report, SAC noted that the busiest month was August, with 1,276,714 passengers, while the lowest traffic was in February, with 685,869 passengers. The report also highlighted key routes: domestically, Rome Fiumicino is the top route, while on the international front, Malta, Tirana, and London Gatwick are among the most significant.
