Brescia “Gabriele D’Annunzio” Airport (IATA: VBS, ICAO: LIPO), also known as Montichiari Airport, is located in Montichiari, southeast of Brescia in Lombardy, Italy.
Recent developments show a strong push to transform the airport into a major cargo hub. In 2025, a Master Plan 2030 was definitively approved: there is a € 100 million investment planned to double freight operations and build logistics infrastructure, including a 4,500 m² warehouse (to be completed by mid‑2026) and a second 10,000 m² facility. Infrastructure upgrades also include runway and apron resurfacing, de-icing areas, and new aircraft stands.
This cargo-focused shift is backed by regional authorities: in October 2025, the Province of Brescia, the Lombardy Region, and the Chamber of Commerce joined forces with the airport’s concessionaire (SAVE via Catullo S.p.A.) to strengthen Montichiari’s role in Northern Italy’s logistics network. The airport’s first phase masterplan was formally approved by ENAC in June 2025.
On the regulatory side, a 2030 development plan was submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, with a public Services Conference held in late 2024. According to the airport operator, general aviation operations run 24/7, and the facility supports even larger GA aircraft thanks to its ILS Category 3B system.
In terms of traffic, Brescia Airport remains modest on the passenger front but very active in freight: according to a 2025 press summary, it is among Italy’s leading airports in cargo growth.
