Biella Cerrione Airport

Biella Cerrione Airport (also Aeroporto Pietro Venanzi di Biella‑Cerrione, ICAO: LILE) is a small public aerodrome in the municipality of Cerrione (Biella province), in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is owned by Air Vergiate, which also runs a professional flight school there.

The airport has a single asphalt runway (16/34) that is 1,320 m long and 30 m wide. Its elevation is 920 ft (about 280 m) above sea level.

Biella‑Cerrione Airport is primarily used for general aviation, pilot training (fixed-wing and helicopters), aircraft maintenance, and as a base for testing and light aviation. It hosts a fire‑rescue alert service (category 2, upgradable to category 4) and offers refueling with Avgas 100LL and Jet A1.

Among its newer developments, the airport has installed a large 6.4 MW photovoltaic (solar) park, built by BayWa r.e. on its premises. The solar installation is intended to generate clean energy, enough to power roughly 4,000 households, and represents a move to diversify airport activities beyond aviation.

The airport’s general services are quite customer‑oriented: there is no slot congestion, there are ample ramp parking spaces, hangars, aircraft repair facilities, and a handling service. It also supports international traffic, though customs services are provided only on request (with prior notice).

Historically, the airport was inaugurated on 26 October 1968 by then-Minister of Transport Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. Later, in 2016, Air Vergiate (which also operates a flight school) became the airport’s owner and named it in honor of Pietro Venanzi, a test pilot.
