Cameri Air Base (Italian: Aeroporto Militare di Cameri, ICAO: LIMN) is a major Italian Air Force facility located near Cameri in the Piedmont region, in the province of Novara. The base sits in the Po Valley and continues to serve a critical role in both military operations and aerospace industrial activity.
In recent years, Cameri has evolved into a key hub for the F-35 program. Its F.A.C.O. (Final Assembly and Check-Out) plant, run by Leonardo, performs final assembly and acceptance testing for F-35 Lightning II aircraft. Beyond Italian jets, the base’s MRO&U (Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul & Upgrade) depot now supports partner-nation F-35 fleets — including, as of 2025, the USAF. This makes Cameri a major Euro-Mediterranean regional repair and upgrade center.
The base’s runway (17/35) is approximately 2,990 m long and 30 m wide, able to support a wide variety of military aircraft.
In addition to F-35 activity, the base supports long-term maintenance for other aircraft types. The 1st Aircraft Maintenance Unit (1° Reparto Manutenzione Velivoli) at Cameri handles Tornado and Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, providing a full maintenance and logistics infrastructure.
On 16 June 2024, Cameri celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of its airport command (1999–2024), marking its evolution into a strategic center for both military and industrial aviation. In July 2024, command of the base changed hands: Colonel Alessandro Pavesi ceded command to Colonel Antonio Corrado.
Moreover, there’s a major expansion underway to further strengthen Cameri’s hub status. Italy is increasing its F-35 fleet (with a reported procurement plan to raise the fleet to 115 aircraft), which underscores the importance of Cameri’s production and maintenance role.
