Bolzano Airport

Bolzano Airport (IATA: BZO, ICAO: LIPB), also called Aeroporto di Bolzano or Flughafen Bozen, is a small regional airport located approximately 6 km south of Bolzano, in the province of South Tyrol, northern Italy. It is operated by ABD Airport AG / S.p.A. and serves as a base for SkyAlps.

The airport’s single paved runway is 01/19, measuring 1,462 m in length, and is suitable for regional and general aviation aircraft.

Traffic has grown in recent years: in 2024, Bolzano Airport handled 106,629 passengers, a 27.4% increase compared to the previous year, and recorded 14,927 aircraft movements, up 10.5%. According to local reports, new routes are planned for 2025, including flights to destinations such as Cefalonia, Minorca, Corfù, Brac’, Ibiza, and Olbia; the airport projects around a 30% increase in flight volume.

The airport has faced staffing challenges: despite significant growth in operations, management says it is hard to recruit mechanics and pilots, and employee numbers are expected to grow from around 170 to 250 in the near future.

Bolzano Airport remains focused on regional connectivity, balancing commercial scheduled services with general aviation, and plays a strategic role in linking South Tyrol to other European destinations.
