Bern Airport

Bern Airport (IATA: BRN, ICAO: LSZB / LSMB), also known as Bern‑Belp Airport, is the regional aerodrome serving Bern, Switzerland, located in Belp, about 9 km southeast of the city. Operated by Flughafen Bern AG, it primarily handles business, charter, and general aviation flights.

The airport has one paved runway, designated 14/32, measuring 1,730 m (5,676 ft) in length with a grooved asphalt surface, plus a shorter grass runway (14L/32R) of 650 m for light aircraft. The aerodrome is capable of handling small propeller aircraft, small to medium jets, and regional airliners.

Originally built in 1929 by the private airline Alpar, the terminal was managed by Alpar after WWII with support from the city and canton of Bern. In 2014, Alpar was renamed Flughafen Bern AG. The airport has historically had limited expansion, with several failed proposals over the decades for a larger international airport in the Bern region.

In 2024, Bern Airport handled 56,745 aircraft movements, though total passenger numbers remain modest, reflecting its focus on regional, business, and non-scheduled traffic.  According to its 2024 financial report, the airport achieved a balanced result, supported by continued investment in its infrastructure and a shift to more sustainable operations, including replacing diesel vehicles with electric ones.
