Luton Airport, UK

London Luton Airport (LTN / EGGW) is an international airport situated about 2.8 km east of Luton town centre in Bedfordshire, and approximately 47 km north of central London. It is operated by Luton Rising — a company owned by Luton Borough Council — in partnership with Aena and InfraBridge.

In 2024, Luton handled 16.7 million passengers, marking a strong recovery and growth in its operations. The airport supports a wide range of low‑cost operators, including easyJet, Wizz Air, Ryanair, TUI, FlyOne, SunExpress, and EL AL.

Significant recent investments have improved passenger experience: the terminal’s security hall was refurbished in 2024 with state-of-the-art body scanners and CT scanner technology. Ground transport has also been enhanced — since March 2023, passengers can take the Luton Airport Express train to Luton Airport Parkway station, then transfer via the DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit) shuttle to reach the terminal in under four minutes.

In April 2025, the UK government approved a major expansion plan for Luton Airport, which will nearly double its annual capacity to 32 million passengers. The scheme involves building a new terminal, expanding infrastructure, and improving taxiways and aircraft stands — though it does not include a second runway.

Luton’s environmental credentials continue to grow: in its 2024 sustainability report, the airport reported more than 14,000 jobs supported locally, and it achieved Level 4 in the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme. Customer satisfaction is also high, with the airport scoring its highest-ever benchmark rating in 2024 (4.07 out of 5).

The airport features a single asphalt runway, capable of accommodating everything from small props to large jets.
