London Biggin Hill Airport (IATA: BQH, ICAO: EGKB) is a premier general aviation airport located in Biggin Hill in the London Borough of Bromley, approximately 12 nautical miles (22 km) south-southeast of central London. Originally an RAF station during the Second World War, Biggin Hill played a critical role in the Battle of Britain; today, a small enclave still acknowledges its military heritage, but the airport operates exclusively for general aviation and business aviation, with no scheduled airline service.
Biggin Hill holds a CAA Ordinary Licence (P804) that authorizes public transport passenger flights or flying instruction, though in practice it is focused on private, corporate, and business-jet traffic. The airport is home to two full-service FBOs, provides extensive hangarage (including for long-term parking of large business aircraft), and supports flight training and executive aviation.
The airfield lies at an elevation of 584 feet (178 m) and features a single asphalt runway (03/21) with a length of 1,806 m (5,928 ft), according to official airport data. The runway has recently undergone a major resurfacing project in 2025, during which more than 100,000 m² of grooved asphalt was laid, centreline lighting was added, and energy-efficient LED edge and approach lights replaced aging halogen fixtures.
In addition, the airport is investing in all-weather operational capability: plans include a new Instrumented Runway Visual Range (RVR) system and a published GPS approach for Runway 03, which is expected to be introduced soon after successful test flights. These improvements are part of a wider £20 million capital investment program intended to boost the airport’s capacity and attractiveness to business aviation.
Biggin Hill remains strictly PPR (Prior Permission Required), meaning all aircraft movements must be approved in advance. Flight operations are generally permitted between 06:30 and 23:00 on weekdays, and 08:00 to 22:00 on weekends and public holidays.
