Van Nuys Airport (IATA: VNY, ICAO: KVNY) is a public, general aviation airport located in the San Fernando Valley portion of Los Angeles, California. It is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).
VNY is one of the busiest general‑aviation airports globally. In recent years, it handled over 300,000 takeoffs and landings.
The airport features two parallel asphalt runways: Runway 16R/34L is 8,001 ft (2,439 m) long with a full Instrument Landing System (ILS), and Runway 16L/34R is 4,013 ft (1,223 m) long, mainly used for smaller, training aircraft.
VNY is especially popular among Hollywood celebrities, business executives, and politicians because of its convenience and relative privacy.
It also supports a wide range of aviation activities beyond private jets. The airfield is home to over 200 on-site businesses, including major fixed-base operators (FBOs) that provide charter, maintenance, flight instruction, and aircraft storage services.
In addition, the Los Angeles City Fire Department operates its Air Operations Unit at VNY, and the Los Angeles Police Department and Department of Water and Power maintain helicopters and support facilities here.
VNY also hosts a FlyAway bus service with nonstop shuttles to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), making it a practical choice for private travelers who park at Van Nuys.
On the technical side, the airport’s elevation is 802 feet (244 m) above mean sea level
