LaGuardia Airport

LaGuardia Airport (IATA: LGA, ICAO: KLGA, FAA LID: LGA) is located in the northern part of the Queens borough of New York City, USA, on the waterfront of Flushing Bay and Bowery Bay, bordering East Elmhurst, Astoria, and Jackson Heights. Covering roughly 680 acres (280 ha), it is the third-busiest airport serving New York City.

In 2024, LaGuardia handled a record 33.5 million passengers, marking a 4% increase over 2023.  It is a major domestic hub, primarily serving short- and medium-haul routes and is a key base for Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.

LaGuardia operates four passenger terminals (A, B, C, and the Marine Air Terminal). Over the past decade, the airport has undergone a massive reconstruction program, including the replacement of its older terminals with modern, spacious facilities. In recent years, it has significantly improved its customer satisfaction, winning the ACI ASQ Award for its size category.

Because of its urban waterfront location, LaGuardia’s runway infrastructure is limited: it has two closely spaced parallel runways each about 2,135 m in length. These constraints impose operational limits: LaGuardia primarily handles aircraft up to narrow-body jets and small-to-medium airliners.

Despite its constrained footprint, LaGuardia remains vital to New York’s air transport system. It plays a central role in the Port Authority’s $30 billion airport redevelopment plan, which has significantly enhanced its infrastructure and passenger facilities.
