Teterboro Airport, New York, USA

Teterboro Airport (ICAO: KTEB) is the oldest operating airport in the New York City area, located in Teterboro, New Jersey. Its history dates back to 1917, when Walter C. Teter acquired the land. During World War I, a North American Aviation manufacturing plant was on site. After the war, the airport became a base for Anthony Fokker’s operations, and the first flight from the present airport site occurred in 1919. In 1926, Colonial Air Transport at Teterboro became the first private company to deliver mail by air.

During World War II, the U.S. Army used Teterboro, and on April 1, 1949, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey purchased the field. Later, they leased it to Pan American World Airways and Johnson Controls until December 1, 2000, when the Port Authority resumed full control.

The airport has two intersecting asphalt runways. Runway 1/19 is about 7,000 ft long, and Runway 6/24 is about 6,013 ft long. Both runways are equipped with high‑intensity lighting and precision approach systems (ILS, REIL, etc.).

Teterboro has a weight restriction: aircraft with an operating weight exceeding 100,000 lb are prohibited.

In 2023, the airport saw about 171,460 operations, and around 85% of them were jets, reflecting its strong role in business aviation.

The airport’s Class D airspace lies under New York Class B airspace, making it part of a complex flight environment near NYC.
