Vnukovo International Airport

Vnukovo International Airport (Russian: Международный аэропорт Внуково; IATA: VKO, ICAO: UUWW) is one of Moscow’s three major airports, located about 28 km (17 mi) southwest of the city center. It handles two parallel runways and offers both domestic and international flights.

In 2024, Vnukovo served around 16.1 million passengers, up 11% from the previous year. For 2025, the airport projects traffic to rise to about 16.5 million passengers (a 2.5% increase), with more than 60% of its traffic expected to be international.

Vnukovo is Moscow’s oldest operating airport, originally opened on 1 July 1941 for military use and later converted to civilian operations after World War II. Over the years, it has grown into a major transport hub, now operating three passenger terminals (Vnukovo-1 with Terminals A, B, and D; Vnukovo-2 for government/delegations; and Vnukovo-3 for business aviation).

The airport features two runways, capable of handling all types of aircraft up to the largest airliners. It has a capacity of 58 takeoffs and landings per hour.

In its long history, Vnukovo has served over 16 million passengers annually as of 2024, consistently ranking among the top three busiest airports in Russia.
