Pulkovo Airport

Pulkovo Airport (Russian: Аэропорт Пулково, IATA: LED, ICAO: ULLI) is a major international airport serving Saint Petersburg, Russia. Operated by Northern Capital Gateway, it is located approximately 23 km (14 mi) south of the city center. The airport serves as a hub for Rossiya Airlines and also handles flights for carriers such as Nordavia and Smartavia.

In 2024, Pulkovo handled a record 20.9 million passengers, a 3% increase from 20.4 million in 2023. Of these, about 16.7 million were on domestic flights, while 4.2 million were international passengers. Early 2024 figures show that the airport served 2.7 million passengers in just the first two months, marking a 7% increase over the same period in 2023. International passenger traffic grew even more sharply, rising 27.7% year-over-year to over 3.7 million travelers, excluding some state-related flights.

Pulkovo has two concrete runways. Runway 10R/28L is 3,780 m (12,401 ft) long, and Runway 10L/28R measures 3,397 m (11,145 ft). The airport features two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international services. Expansion plans, including additional aircraft stands and increased terminal capacity, are underway, although as of April 2025, construction of the second phase of the terminal has been delayed.

By the end of 2024, Pulkovo’s 20.9 million passengers made it the second-largest airport in Russia in terms of passenger traffic. It continues to serve as a key gateway for residents of Saint Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad Oblast, supporting both domestic and international travel with facilities capable of handling everything from small regional jets to large long-range airliners.
