Klagenfurt Airport
Klagenfurt Airport (IATA: KLU, ICAO: LOWK), also known as Kärnten Airport, is the airport serving Klagenfurt, the sixth-largest city in Austria. It is located in the borough of Annabichl, approximately 1.5 NM (2.8 km; 1.7 mi) north‑northeast of the city centre. The airport mainly offers flights to European leisure and metropolitan destinations.
Klagenfurt Airport has a history dating back to the 1920s with various airfields in the region, while the modern airport was officially established in its current location in 1935 and has been gradually expanded over the decades. The airport features a single paved runway (10L/28R) of 2,720 m (8,924 ft) and a secondary grass runway (10R/28L) of 710 m (2,329 ft), suitable for small props, small jets, medium jets, long-range jets, regional airliners, and large airliners.
The airport serves both scheduled and seasonal flights, with Austrian Airlines connecting to Vienna, Ryanair operating to London Stansted and seasonal destinations such as Alicante and Palma de Mallorca, and other carriers providing limited regional services.
The airport terminal is modest, containing a single building with basic passenger amenities, including shops, restaurants, and a visitor terrace. No jet bridges are present, and passengers board aircraft via bus. Klagenfurt Airport is also frequently used for general aviation and private flights.
