Frankfurt Airport (IATA: FRA, ICAO: EDDF), also known as Flughafen Frankfurt am Main or Rhein‑Main‑Flughafen, is Germany’s largest international airport and a key global hub. In the first half of 2025, Frankfurt Airport saw continued growth, handling about 29.1 million passengers, a 1.4% rise from the same period in 2024. In June 2025 alone, the airport recorded 5.8 million passengers, thanks to strong demand for warm-weather European destinations.
Frankfurt’s history includes a U.S. military presence: the southern part of the airport grounds formerly housed the Rhein-Main Air Base, which was in use by the United States until 2005.
FRA’s ground infrastructure supports widebody jets, regional airliners, and cargo aircraft thanks to its runways and logistics setup. The airport continues to be a central hub in Europe, balancing strong passenger traffic with substantial cargo operations and global connectivity.
