Al Bateen Executive Airport

Al Bateen Executive Airport (IATA: AZI, ICAO: OMAD) is Abu Dhabi’s dedicated business aviation airport, located about 6.5 nautical miles (12 km) southeast of downtown on Abu Dhabi Island. Operated by Abu Dhabi Airports, it is the only airport in the MENA region solely for private jets.

Built in the 1960s and opened in 1969, the airport served as Abu Dhabi’s main international gateway until 1982, then became a military base, and was converted to a private jet terminal in 2008. It now operates 24/7 with no slot restrictions, allowing for fast turnarounds, minimal taxi times, and no holding patterns.

The airport can handle up to 50 private jets on its stands. Its runway is 3,202 meters (10,506 ft) long, according to its operator, allowing Code 4D aircraft to use it. Major recent upgrades include runway resurfacing and widening, new ground lighting, signage, landscaping, and a significant boundary wall—all completed in 2022.

A new VVIP terminal covering 2,220 m² has been built, along with upgraded lounges, improved hangars, an expanded fuel farm, and improved airside parking. In April 2025, Abu Dhabi Airports announced a major new partnership with Bombardier: Al Bateen will host an 11,000 m² MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) facility for Bombardier business aircraft, creating roughly 100 aerospace jobs in the emirate.

In short, Al Bateen Executive Airport remains a top-tier, world‑class facility for private aviation—providing fast, discreet, high-end service right in the heart of Abu Dhabi.
