Ibiza Airport

Ibiza Airport (IATA: IBZ, ICAO: LEIB) (Catalan: Aeroport d’Eivissa, Spanish: Aeropuerto de Ibiza) is the international airport serving the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera in Spain. Located about 7 km southwest of Ibiza Town, it is the main gateway for tourism to the islands. As a major European holiday destination, the airport provides year-round domestic flights and dozens of seasonal routes across Europe. Ibiza Airport also operates as a seasonal hub for Vueling, with roughly 95% of all arrivals and departures to these two islands passing through its terminals.

The airport was first established as a temporary military airfield during the Spanish Civil War and later served as an emergency airport. In 1949, it began domestic and international tourist flights, but operations were suspended in 1951. Tourism growth led to its reopening on 1 April 1958, initially connecting to Palma, Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid. Since then, the airport has steadily expanded to accommodate the increasing passenger traffic driven by seasonal tourism.

Ibiza Airport has a main runway of 2,799 m (9,186 ft), suitable for small propeller aircraft, small jets, medium jets, long-range jets, regional airliners, and large airliners. It is equipped to handle both domestic and international traffic efficiently, with facilities and services tailored to the high seasonal demand.

In 2024, the airport set a new record by handling 9,069,410 passengers, a 1.5% increase compared to 2023. During the same year, there were 83,049 aircraft operations, reflecting the airport’s role as a critical transport hub for millions of travelers visiting Ibiza and Formentera each year.
