Mitiga International Airport (IATA: MJI, ICAO: HLLM) is a joint civil-military airport located about 8 kilometers east of Tripoli’s city center, in Libya. Since the severe damage to and closure of Tripoli International Airport, Mitiga has become the sole major airport serving Tripoli.
The airport operates at a low elevation of just 36 ft (11 m) above mean sea level. It features two asphalt runways: Runway 03/21 is 1,829 meters (6,000 ft) long, and the main runway, 11/29, is 3,376 meters (11,076 ft) long, making it capable of handling a broad range of aircraft, including large jets.
Mitiga is open for civil operations, and it continues to host military usage as well. The airport provides Jet A-1 and AVGAS fuel, and it has both customs and entry services. According to Universal Weather, some flights (especially non-revenue and private ones) may require prior permit or approval.
As of 2025, ITA Airways has resumed direct flights from Rome Fiumicino to Mitiga twice weekly, marking a symbolic reconnection between Italy and Tripoli after years of interrupted service.
