Lugano Airport (IATA: LUG, ICAO: LSZA), also known as Lugano‑Agno Airport, is a regional airport located in Agno, approximately 6 km west of downtown Lugano in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It primarily serves business aviation, general aviation, and seasonal charter traffic; there are currently no regular scheduled airline services.
The airport sits at an elevation of 915 feet (279 m) above sea level. It has a single asphalt runway, designated 01/19, which is 1,420 meters (4,658 ft) long and 30 meters wide. Because of its location in a valley surrounded by rising terrain, approaches into Lugano are demanding: the instrument approach involves a steep 6.65° glide path, more than double the typical 3° descent angle.
Lugano Airport supports full general‑aviation ground handling, including fuel services (AVGAS and JET A-1), and rescue and firefighting services are provided up to Category 4 on request. Its operational hours and handling conditions may require prior coordination for flight plans, especially for business or charter flights.
Since the end of fixed-line commercial services (which ceased in 2019), the airport has focused on business and private aviation, charter operations, flight training, and maintenance. Its terminal is modest but functional, offering check-in desks, apron boarding, a restaurant, a duty‑free zone, and a flying club.
Governance of the airport changed recently: in 2020, the operating company Lugano Airport SA was placed into orderly liquidation, and the city of Lugano assumed management, aiming to restructure it through a future public-private partnership.
Lugano’s transport links include a shuttle bus connection to Lugano railway station, while Agno railway station is also within walking distance of the terminal, offering access to the broader Ticino rail network.
