Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (IATA: FXE, ICAO: KFXE) is a general aviation airport located within the city limits of Fort Lauderdale, in Broward County, Florida, about 5 miles (8 km) north of downtown. It is owned by the City of Fort Lauderdale and operated by its Transportation & Mobility Department. FXE is dedicated exclusively to private, business, and general aviation — there are no scheduled airline services.
The airport has two asphalt runways: the primary runway is 09/27, which is 6,002 ft (1,829 m) long and 100 ft wide, and the secondary runway is 13/31, measuring 4,000 ft (1,219 m) by 100 ft. There is currently a proposed extension project for Runway 09/27 to add another 1,000 ft (305 m), which would raise its take‑off length to about 7,002 ft — potentially improving performance for larger business jets.
FXE is very active in general aviation: it has 24‑hour air traffic control service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities, and multiple FBOs. Based aircraft include single‑engine, multi‑engine, jets, and helicopters. Fuel (Avgas and Jet-A) is available, and the airport supports a wide variety of business aviation operations.
Because of its size and runway configuration, FXE is a very convenient alternative for business and private flights going into or out of the greater Fort Lauderdale–Miami area. It is less congested than the major commercial airports nearby and is well suited to shorter‑ to medium‑range business jets.
