Cairo International Airport (IATA: CAI, ICAO: HECA) is Egypt’s largest and busiest airport, serving Cairo as its main aviation gateway. It is operated by Cairo Airport Company under the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation.
In 2024, the airport handled over 27.7 million passengers across 211,600 flights, up from 26.4 million in 2023. On 5 April 2025, the airport recorded a record single-day traffic, with 102,108 passengers on 682 flights — reflecting very high demand. In February 2025, it saw 2.42 million passengers, an 8 % increase year over year, while flight movements also rose. In March 2025, Cairo Airport handled 2,289,881 passengers and 18,154 flights. In April 2025, there was a 12% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers, with 2.62 million travelers and 18,966 flights. In June 2025 alone, 2.39 million passengers used the airport.
To expand its capacity, the airport is building a new Terminal 4 expected to handle up to 30 million passengers per year; once completed, this will raise the airport’s total capacity to 60 million annually. The project also includes a new runway with modern lighting systems, solar-panel–covered parking, and smart-technology operational buildings.
Cairo International Airport continues to serve as a major regional hub, with growing passenger traffic, ambitious infrastructure expansion, and a long-term plan to boost its capacity to support Egypt’s tourism and aviation growth.
