Aeropuerto nacional de la isla de Mykonos

Mykonos Airport is located on the Greek island of Mykonos, a short drive from the island’s capital – known as Chora.

The airport, also known as Hephaistos (or Ifestos) Airport, during the summer is very busy so that Airport parking slots for jets and helicopters can be limited – so we advise to book your flight as far ahead as possible.

During the off-peak tourist season the airport has limited flight connections and operating hours. On the other hand, during the 2014 peak summer season it was found necessary to severely limit general aviation activity..

In December 2015 the privatization of Mykonos International Airport and 13 other regional airports of Greece was finalized with the signing of the agreement between the Fraport AG/Copelouzos Group joint venture and the state privatization fund.

MYKONOS AIRPORT HISTORY

Mykonos Island National Airport  (IATA: JMK,ICAO: LGMK) began its operations in the year 1971 in the month of June. The aeropuerto features a 1900 meters runway and is elevated at 405 ft above the sea level. In the early 1960’s when the town of Mykonos became the center of the hippie movement, the airport’s importance increased. In search of peace and tranquility thousands of tourists flood here to the beautiful locale. When the authorities realized this they decided that the destination could be made profitable and they immediately decided to put extensive investments to modernize the airport. This helped the town of Mykonos to become a very major money earner for the government with thousands of tourists landing every day to experience the rich historical traditions of the town.

The Mykonos Airport  is really busy during the summer, so that Airport parking slots for jets and helicopters can be limited – so we advise to book your flight as far ahead as possible.

Travelers looking to reach the hotspot of Mykonos this summer may be disappointed, if they haven’t yet booked their Avión privado o Helicóptero. According to past years, landing demand is so moderate that the Mykonos island’s airport is forced to turn away private jets at peak times – with some switching to helicópteros en su lugar.
